Activity 3: Analysis of Letter by Cherin Tan (06)

For Ethos,  He also starts the letter by writing praises for the politicians, making him more likable.

For Logos, instead of writing more praises to the politicians, he goes on to talk about why he is writing this letter, to support the gun control legislation that will be on the November ballot. He gave statistics from the F.B.I., case studies by The New England Journal of Medicine and many other statistics. He countered possible points that others will say and gave logical reasoning in this sentence, “Opponents of gun control will say that this does not matter because most criminals buy their guns on the black market.
…ones that would therefore not be on the black market if our gun control laws were more strict to begin with.”

For Pathos, he  identified himself as someone who lost their child to a gun accident , made a claim to urge in support the gun control legislation that will be on the November ballot. Losing someone is something not many people would want to talk about. But it can make people sympathize with the person, understand the feelings and eventually makes the person want to help. This is what the writer is trying to achieve from the politicians.
